Sometimes a relatively
short conversation with
someone who sees things
differently can be enough
to help you find your own
answer to a problem, or
guide your response to
an opportunity”
isn’t for you. We all know that human
relationships don’t always work
perfectly on the first aempt.
Perhaps the biggest hurdle is simply
puing your hand up in the first place.
Asking someone to mentor you can
feel like admiing you don’t know
something.
Offering to become a mentor can
feel equally daunting if you question
whether you have enough experience
to be useful.
I would encourage people to look
at both rather differently. Seeking a
mentor says that you are curious, open
to challenge and prepared to invest
some time in your own development.
Becoming one says you are willing
to share what you have learned and
help somebody else find their way.
And you may well discover that you
can be both.
We have a huge amount of
knowledge and experience across
the mortgage industry, but its value
increases when we share it. Mentoring
gives us a simple way to do that, one
conversation and one relationship at a
time. So, if you have never considered
finding a mentor, perhaps now is
the time. And if you have never
considered becoming one, don’t
underestimate what you might have
to offer. ●
