Richard McRoberts, business development manager
for Kent and the South Coast at Landbay
How and why did you
become a BDM?
I became a BDM after coming across
the role and feeling it was a really
good fit for me. Before moving into
business development, I worked as
a broker, which gave me a strong
understanding of the challenges
advisers face day to day, and what
they need from a lender. While I
enjoyed helping clients and building
relationships in that role, I missed
getting out on the road, meeting new
people and having those face-to-face

conversations. I have always enjoyed
working with people, building
relationships and understanding
what others need, so as clichéd as it
sounds, becoming a BDM felt like a
natural direction to take.
What appealed to me most was
the variety the role brings. No two
days are ever the same, and you are
constantly speaking to different
brokers, learning about their
businesses and enabling them to
find the right route for their clients.
Being able to combine my experience
as a broker with the opportunity
to travel, meet advisers across the
region and build lasting relationships
made the move into business
development an easy decision. That
combination of relationship-building
and problem-solving, and being part
of someone’s property journey, is
what I really enjoy.
What brought you
to Landbay?
Having had experience in the buyto-let (BTL) sector already, I was
naturally drawn to Landbay. I had
already heard very good things about
