TOYOTA LAND CRUISER COMMERCIAL
gearbox is smooth, and the ratios wellchosen. Visibility is excellent: the elevated
driving position provides a commanding
view of the road, while huge side
mirrors compensate for the lack of rear
windows. The flat bonnet also makes it
easier to judge road positioning, and the
driving position is superb – comfortable
and multi-adjustable.
Another key strength is its towing
capability. Even with a full payload, it
can tow up to 3.5 tonnes, making it an
excellent choice for users who need
to transport heavy equipment or tow
car trailers. For some buyers, this may
position it as a more refined alternative
to the Toyota Hilux, particularly if a
traditional pick-up isn’t required.
The interior is well-appointed. Given
its price point of over £50,000, it offers a
level of premium quality and equipment,
as you’d expect. Standard features
include 18-inch alloy wheels, a poweradjustable driver’s seat, heated front
seats, and a powered tailgate with an
opening window section. Adaptive cruise
control, automatic climate control and an
auto-dimming rear-view mirror are also
standard. The infotainment system is
centred around a nine-inch touchscreen,
offering wireless smartphone integration
through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

A wireless charging pad, along with
multiple USB ports, ensures that devices
can be easily powered on the go.
As for the business end, the load area
is designed with practicality in mind.
The flat floor, finished in non-slip rubber,
provides a stable surface, while six
integrated lashing points allow loads to
be securely fastened.
Access is facilitated by both the
electrically operated tailgate and the side
doors and a three-pin power socket adds
further versatility, enabling the use of
electrical equipment with a power takeoff directly from the vehicle.
There is also a small amount of space
between the bulkhead and the front
seats, which, while not part of the main
load area, can be used for storing
smaller items such as tools, protective
clothing, or accessories that need to
be kept within easy reach, or for hiding
valuable equipment such as laptops.
The verdict
It may be a low-volume and niche
vehicle, but it’s clear that Toyota has
thought long and hard about the Land
Cruiser Commercial and has delivered a
truly exceptional vehicle as a result – and
with the pride of British engineers behind
it, too.
