REVIEW
MAZDA CX-80 2.5 E SKYACTIV PHEV
PHEV battery carries an eight year or
100,000-mile warranty.
Verdict
The Mazda CX-80 PHEV is not trying
to be the loudest SUV in the segment.
It is not chasing digital gimmicks or
artificial sportiness. Instead, it delivers
genuine space, usable electric range,
strong towing ability and composed
performance in a package that feels
carefully engineered.
With 327ps, 500 Nm of torque, 38 miles
of electric range and room for seven, it
covers an enormous brief without feeling
stretched thin. It is big, yes. It is not
light. But it feels thoughtful, balanced
and quietly premium in a way that stands
out, precisely because it does not shout
about it.
TCO – Total Cost of Ownership
Capital Expenditure: OTR prices start
from £50,080 for the Exclusive-Line
PHEV, and rise to £60,145 for the Takumi
Plus Diesel.
Benefit-in-Kind (BIK): The PHEV is highly
competitive for fleet drivers with a BIK
rate of 13% (CO2: 35-38g/km). The Diesel
variant is significantly higher at 35–36%.
Resale Value: As Mazda's most spacious
SUV and 'Large Car of the Year 2025'
winner, residual values should remain
strong in the seven-seat segment.
Fuel Efficiency
Battery Warranty: PHEV models include
an 8-year or 100,000-mile high-voltage
battery warranty.
Service Intervals: The maximum interval
is 12,500 miles or 12 months. Fixed-price
service plans are available to lock in
fleet costs.
Downtime
Towing Support: For fleets using the
vehicle as a workhorse, it is built to tow
up to 2,500kg and features a bespoke
Towing Mode and Trailer Hitch View to
simplify coupling and improve stability.
Charging Downtime: The PHEV does not
support DC rapid charging; a 0-100% AC
charge takes approximately 2h20 on a
Mode 3 charger.
Technology: The Mazda Driver
Personalisation System (standard on
Homura and above) automatically
restores settings, reducing setup time
for multi-driver fleets.
Safety
NCAP Rating: Achieved a 5-Star Euro
NCAP rating in 2024.
Insurance Groups: Ranging from 37A to
39A, which is competitive for a vehicle
of this size and significantly lower than
premium rivals like the Range Rover
Sport (Group 50).
Safety Technology: Standard features
across the range include Smart Brake
Support (Front, Rear, and Crossing), Blind
Spot Monitoring, Driver Monitoring, and
Front Cross Traffic Alert.
PHEV Weighted Combined: Up to 176.6
mpg with an equivalent all-electric
range of 38 miles. Real-world fleet data
suggests roughly 32 mpg when the
battery is depleted.
Diesel Combined: Official figures are
48.7–49.6 mpg. This makes it a strong
contender for high-mileage fleet users
who cannot charge daily.
Energy Consumption: The PHEV's electric
efficiency is rated at 2.6 miles/kWh.
Maintenance Cost
Standard Warranty: All cars registered
from 1st September 2025 receive a
6-year or 100,000-mile manufacturer’s
warranty.
