omitted. It'd be nice if it extended into
refrigerants, that being such a known
global warmer.
“The problem is, chemicals that have
fluoride molecules have got exceptionally
strong chemical bonds that are hard to
break. Any sort of fluoride substance,
it tends to take forever to degrade or
decompose.
“If Euro 7 is measuring emissions,
then those should come into scope, as a
demonstrable saving that perhaps wasn’t
previously identified.”
Benefitting everyone
Electric vans often get all the attention
when it comes to improving efficiency
and sustainability, but there are gains to
be realised on diesel vans, too.
More sustainable refrigerants are
clearly a benefit for all types of van,
but the aerodynamic improvements
developed for EVs can also assist with the
efficiency of diesel vans.
Gatty says: “The notion of putting the
condenser underneath the body for an
electric vehicle, we've been doing that
on diesel as well, because, guess what?
People do want better fuel performance
if it's a diesel or petrol-fuelled vehicle.”
Driving efficiencies here is hugely
tempting for operators, as they can
reduce costs without much in the way of
operational changes.
Gatty believes CoolKit can continue
to offer fleets a truly rounded product,
with OEM-approved quality, long-term
reliability, sustainability, and an attractive
economic proposition.
He concludes: “We've been
working with more than one vehicle
valuation agency, to help them define
more precisely the impact on residual
value the refrigerated vehicle conversion
has.
"It's a fundamental part of a contract
hire proposition, knowing what the thing
is going to be worth at the end.
“Therefore, if we can take steps that
associate CoolKit as having a higher
residual value at the end of its term,
that'll make it a more affordable
proposition, and a more profitable
arrangement for the funder.
"We take steps to ensure that we were
not compromising the longevity of the
vehicle, and see to it that it'll be durable
beyond its first life.
“We're driven by strong economic
headwinds these days. People are
desperate to save money in their
businesses or to yield more from
whatever investment they've made.”
