Q&A
GENERATIONAL
of automotive companies, who travel the
country testing EVs, and we benchmark
our results against OEM diagnostics.
We are applying for accreditation to
become an approved battery health
check from the Car Remarketing
Association (CARA) Europe.
Essentially, what we're doing is
surfacing and exposing the hidden OEM
data that's within the battery system.
How do you approach relationships
with dealerships and other industry
stakeholders to roll the tech out?
Is battery health still a serious
problem, even with newer models?
Batteries degrade based on how the
vehicle has been used, so we do still see
a small percentage of vehicles that have
got excessively degraded batteries.
In large part, though, it’s about giving
people confidence. A lot of people are
comparing EV batteries to their iPhone,
for example – they’re expecting a lifespan
of three years, or not much more.
People want to buy a car with a good
battery and are willing to pay a premium
for it. The battery is 40% or 50% of the
value of the car, which is already, for a lot
of people, the most expensive thing they
own, barring property.
So, it’s about reassurance, but that’s
not all. Increasingly, it will be one of the
key factors that determines the value of
the vehicle.
How do you ensure that the data is
accurate and reliable?
We have a brilliant engineering team
with amazing experience from all kinds
Dealerships have lots of different
processes, and also different constraints
about what they can do. So, we're very
flexible in how we work with customers.
The key point is that our solution
is super easy to use in different
operational contexts.
A lot of the challenge with existing
diagnostics tools is that it's really for
a technician workshop environment,
but the battery is so important, you
need to bring those diagnostics out
and make them more accessible,
integrating with other elements of the
business operations.
The aim with our tool is to make it
super simple, with literally just an app on
your phone or tablet. You select the make
and model of the car and then run the
diagnostic, and within a minute or so you
can raise the certificate.
That means that our roll-outs
with partners are super easy. We
also have application programming
interfaces (APIs).
What other innovations are you
looking at implementing?
Thinking about the dealers, it’s about
integration with the website providers.
It’s very common for EVs to be marketed
in exactly the same way as ICE cars, but
there's a lot of EV-specific information
that isn't easily surfaced. Integrating the
battery health into how EVs are marketed
is a big initiative for us.
That means working with website
providers and valuation companies.
They're starting to want to capture data
on how the health of a car’s battery is
impacting its price, so that they can
reflect that in the market. →
