OPINION
ELECTRIC VEHICLES
not optional extras
million fully electric cars on UK roads.
Just under 5% of the total fleet. At the
same time, EVs now account for around
a quarter of new car registrations,
showing momentum is building even if
the majority of drivers are still in petrol or
diesel vehicles.
Public charging infrastructure is
expanding quickly, too, with more than
85,000 devices now installed across the
UK, including a rapidly growing share of
rapid and ultra-rapid units.
In other words, EV adoption is no
longer niche.
For dealerships, the shift is already
visible in the showroom, the service bay,
and increasingly in the aftersales parts
catalogue.
Dealers that act now have the chance
to get ahead. By treating EV charging
cables as essential rather than optional
extras, by training staff to recommend
the right solutions, and by
partnering with suppliers that can
provide reliable, repairable products
on demand, they will cement their
role as trusted guides through the
EV transition. For fleets, the value
proposition is even stronger, combining
compliance, uptime, and sustainability.
Those who hesitate risk being
caught flat-footed in a market where
expectations are rising fast and
customer tolerance for poor advice is
diminishing.
The reality is simple: EV cables
cannot be an afterthought. They are
at the heart of the electric driving
experience, and dealerships that
understand this will be the ones
that win the loyalty of customers
in the years ahead. i
