Upskilling sales
people will help
drive EV adoption

s electric vehicle (EV) sales
increase, dealers need to
ensure they expand the
knowledge and skill set
of their sales teams to
deliver the best possible
customer outcomes.
It has been a long time
coming, but as a sector we are starting
to see new EV sales gaining momentum.
Registrations in the year to date are
up by 29.5%, and account for more
than one in five new car purchases,
according to the latest data from
the Society of Motor Manufacturers
and Traders (SMMT). Additionally, the
Electric Car Grant (ECG) will prompt EV

consideration among buyers searching
for their next car, especially as the list of
qualifying vehicles grows.
Analysis of the customer retention
rate for one of our OEM partners has
identified just how strong the direction
of travel is.
We looked at what renewing
customers – who had taken out finance
on new petrol cars – were choosing
next. 55% opted for new EVs or hybrids,
rising to 59% for those considering used
EVs or hybrids.
This is all welcome news to retailers,
as the transition to electric has required
significant investments across their
showroom and workshop operations.
